Why in News
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Competition Commission of India (CCI) and the Competition Commission of Mauritius (CCM) to promote and strengthen cooperation in the field of competition law and policy. has approved.
Implementation strategy and goals
- The objective of this agreement is to promote and strengthen cooperation in matters of competition law and policy through information exchange, sharing of best practices and capacity building initiatives.
- It aims to promote mutual cooperation in areas such as technical cooperation, experience sharing and enforcement cooperation.
- This will result in massive benefits to consumers and promote equity and inclusivity.
Effect:
- The MoU between CCI and CCM is expected to:
- It will address anti-competitive sanctions affecting international trade;
- This will improve the implementation of Competition Act, 2002 by CCI;
- It will promote understanding of competition policy;
- This will lead to capacity building; And
- Will receive diplomatic benefits;
- The Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Competition Commission of India on the Indian side and Mauritius Competition Commission on the other side will be the major beneficiaries through this MoU.
Background:
- Section 18 of the Competition Act, 2002 permits the CCI to enter into any memorandum or arrangement with any agency of any country for the purpose of discharging its duties or performing its functions under the Act.

About Chaudhary Charan Singh

- Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on 23 December 1902 in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
- Chaudhary Charan Singh was the fifth Prime Minister of India. He was the Prime Minister of India from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980.
- He made many policies to improve the condition of farmers during his Prime Minister’s tenure.
- Apart from being a politician, he was also a good writer. He had a good command over English.
- He had entered politics at the time of independence. During this time he also wrote two diary books from the jail of Bareilly.
- He started practicing law in Ghaziabad with honesty, frankness and conscientiousness in the year 1928 after taking law education from Agra University.
- Charan Singh formed the Congress Committee in Ghaziabad in 1929, influenced by the Purna Swaraj proclamation in the Lahore session of the Congress.
- He became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 03 April 1967. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister on 17 April 1968.
- He got good success in the mid-term elections. He again became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on 17 February 1970. After he became the Home Minister in the Central Government, he established the Mandal and Minorities Commission.

‘Pralay’

- Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on 23 December 2021 off the coast of Odisha, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam successfully completed the second flight test of indigenously developed conventional surface-to-surface missile ‘Pralay’ from the island.
Key point

- For the first time, two flight tests of a ballistic missile for two consecutive days were successfully completed.
- This flight test accomplished all the mission objectives. The launch proved the system successful in both the configurations of the missile.
- It has fulfilled all its objectives during testing. The Pralay missile followed the desired quasi-ballistic trajectory and achieved the specified target with absolute accuracy, validating the control, guidance and mission algorithms.
- All the sub-systems performed satisfactorily at the time of testing. All sensors positioned near the focal point on the east coast, including down range ships, tracked the missile trajectory and captured all incidents.
- Pralay missile is powered by solid propellant rocket motor and many new technologies.
- The missile has a range of 150-500 km and can be launched from a mobile launcher.
- Pralay missile guidance system comprises of state-of-the-art navigation and integrated avionics systems.
